Hey there, I’m Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner. This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question, and I get to help you find an answer. You can find this and 400 other answered questions in this series on our YouTube channel.
What Can I Do to Keep My Business Facebook Page Interesting?
What can I do to keep my business Facebook page interesting and exciting? There is a house cleaner who wants to jazz up her business Facebook page, and she wants to know, how do I keep it interesting?
Well, there are a couple of things that you can do as business owners to keep the momentum going.
Your Facebook Page is Linked to Your Business
Now, if your business Facebook page has the same name as your business and it’s linked to your website, and your other social media, what happens is that when people start commenting, responding, and participating on your Facebook page, and they recommend your business Facebook page, it shows up in the Google search engines.
So, even if you don’t have a lot of ratings and reviews, those Facebook reviews speak volumes as far as people finding you in the Google search engines. So, you do want activity on your regular Facebook page.
Get Customers to Share Your Facebook Page
So, what do you do? On Sunday, I call it, “Share it Sunday.” This is where you share your best before and after pictures of the week.
Now, house cleaners love to do these because when you see a really icky bathtub, for example, and then you take a picture before and then after, it shows what an amazing job you did.
It’s a showcase of your work. And so, during the week you have lots of bathtubs to clean. You have lots of toilets to clean. You have lots of sinks, or bedrooms, or playrooms, or whatever.
Get the Client’s Permission Before You Take a Picture
The rule of thumb is if you’re going to take a picture, get the client’s permission first, and then, make sure that there’s no identifying information.
Like, there are no pictures on the walls with the family’s name, or there’s no mail that has their address on it that someone could zoom in and see.
So, if there’s a family picture there, remove the picture or fold it down so that it’s not visible when you take the before and after picture. You do not want to expose your family.
Send Them a Copy of the Picture You Took
Secondly, send the family a copy of the picture you took, and say, “Hey, I loved how your playroom turned out. Check it out. This is the before, this is the after.”
What happens is if they love it too, they’re going to share it on social media with their friends. And so, now they have a copy that you took.
You are there when it looks super bad, and now it looks super good. And it’s never going to look as good as it does right after you clean it. So, you are the one that takes the pictures and then gives them to the customer. And then on Share it Sunday, tell your customers, “Hey, your house made it to my Share it Sunday social media.”
Some Customers Will Give You a Testimony on Your Own Website
A lot of people will jump in and say, “That’s my house cleaner. That’s my house. That’s what she did.” And they’ll give you a testimony on your own website.
It’s also a great time after people start giving it a thumbs up, and they start liking and loving the posts. When you get 107 likes on your post, contact the customer and say, “Oh my goodness, there were 107 people that voted for your house because we’ve just said this was the best before and after picture.”
Have a Monday Motivation Quote
Monday Motivation. Since social media came into being, everybody loves these little inspirational quotes. So, on Motivational Monday, this is a great time to have some kind of inspirational quote.
It doesn’t have to be about cleaning, but it could be about living your best life, living your dreams, reaching your full potential, having more time with your family. Make it the values that you represent as a cleaning company. And so, the Motivational Monday is a touchy-feely good thing where people like those.
They love pictures. There’s usually some soft picture or whatever that makes your heart feel good. And people share those. They repost them. They pin them, all those things. So, a Motivational Monday, it’s usually a good choice.
Post for Tipful Tuesday
Then there is, Tipful Tuesday. On Tuesday, this is a great time to say, “Hey, as a cleaning business, here’s what I recommend you do to keep your home clean between my visits.” And so, these could be things like washing your daily dishes, wiping up the vanity after you’ve brushed your teeth, hanging up your towel after a shower.
There are simple things that you’re not going to do as a professional house cleaner. So, it’s not going to take away from them hiring you, but this is a way to make your job easier when you show up. If they’ve been following your Tipful Tuesdays, and they’ve been using all these tips in their home, their home is going to be a lot cleaner and easier for you to clean when you arrive.
Tipful Tuesdays are Pure Value
So, Tipful Tuesday is pure value. And if you want, and you want to go the extra mile, you can create a YouTube video where you start a collection of these Tipful Tuesdays.
And then, you shoot out via email to your clients, a Tipful Tuesday. And then post it on your social media so that you can get reusable use out of it, whether it gets tweeted, or pinned, or posted, or whatever. Lots of different places you can repurpose that information.
Hold a Contest on Wednesday
So on Wednesday, it’s Wednesday, Who Won? And so, for this try to hold a contest of some sort. At Savvy Cleaner right now, we’re holding a daily contest for free T-shirts.
And they’re cleaning T-shirts. They’re T-shirts for cleaning business owners and for homeowners. We came out with one yesterday that says, “This is my Saturday cleaning shirt.”
That’s kind of funny. If somebody wears that, they’re going to say, “What are you doing today? Cleaning? Well, of course, I’m cleaning. My house cleaner is not here. She doesn’t come until Tuesday. This is my Saturday cleaning shirt.” Right?
Cleaning Contests are an Inexpensive Marketing Tool
So, here’s the secret about the cleaning contest. It’s free for you. It’s a marketing expense to us. So, if for nothing else, jump on our free T-shirts, win a couple of free T-shirts, and then hold your own contests, and give them away to your homeowners.
It may not cost you anything. If you want, you can also buy T-shirts. Pick the one that sings to you, and then hold it for your own contest. But here’s what’s cool about it. If one of your customers wins a T-shirt and it says something like, “This is my Saturday cleaning shirt,” every single time they wear that shirt from now through infinity, they’re going to think of you.
Every conversation that someone says, “Oh, that’s such an awesome shirt.” They’re going to say, “My cleaning lady gave this to me,She doesn’t come on Saturdays, so she gave me this shirt.”
People Will Ask About Your Free Prizes
And they’re going to say, “Tell me about your cleaning lady. Do you like her? Tell me how it works.” They’re going to give you a recommendation because now they feel good about you giving them this shirt.
So, have some kind of a contest where even if it’s not a free cleaning, which is very expensive, a T-shirt is not expensive. But the T-shirt lasts forever. We all have T-shirts that are in our closet that are 20 years old. Well, most of us do. If you’re not 20 yet, you don’t, but you will. They last forever.
Throwback Thursday. This is awesome. It’s been around forever. But on throwback Thursday, you throw a picture that happened way back in the past. And it’s different from today.
Now, one of the cool things that have been happening lately is Throwback Thursday, which is a week ago. And we’re like, “That’s not funny. It was a few days ago.”
And so, people are showing pictures of their own house, of their kids, of themselves. It’s a great way to tell your personal story so that your customers can learn a little bit more about you.
Clients Can Learn About You From Throwback Thursday
So, they learn a little bit about you through the Throwback Thursdays, and it doesn’t have to be about cleaning. It can be about you, about your family, about a picnic that you went on, about kayaking.
It can be about anything because what you don’t know is there’s somebody out there that has the same shared interests as you. When they see your Throwback Thursday pictures, they’re going to connect with you on a new level. Suddenly, we’re the same.
So, you would make a good house cleaner for me because we are the same. We both love kayaking or crocheting, or we both teach piano lessons on the side, or whatever. So, this is a great way to let your customers learn a little bit more about you.
Have a Fabulous Friday Post
Then there is have a Fabulous Friday post. This is where the contest for the free shirts or for whatever it is, you’re offering begins. On Fabulous Fridays, what we do is, because we’ve already sent the customers throughout the week, we’ve sent them pictures of the before and after of their home.
And we strategically sent them two or three. We don’t want to send them 20 because that’s overwhelming, and they’re going to delete those from their phone. But if you send them two or three, people are proud like, “Wow, my house never looked so great.”
So, they’re going to hang onto those pictures. So, on Fabulous Friday, you get a chance to let your customers upload their own pictures.
Let Your Customers Post Your Before and After Pictures
So, we let them upload their own pictures where they say, “Well, my house cleaner came to my house, and this is how it looked when they arrived. Now, it’s so clean. Look how amazing this is.” We let the viewers, whether it’s their friends, or your friends, or whoever votes on the best, who got it best?
And so, once the voting happens, people are going to try to click on a lot of times, they’re going to get their family members to click on. They might ask a few of their friends to click on. So, the more likes a picture gets, and it’s a contest on Fabulous Friday, who has the most fabulous home?
So, on the Fabulous Friday, what happens is the person that has the most wins your Wednesday prize. Wednesday, Who Won it from our Fabulous Friday.
Keep Activity Going All Week
It’s a great way to keep activity going all week and to keep people coming back to your social media page. The more interaction you have on your Facebook page, the more times it’s shown to those same people.
So, if people drift away and they’re gone for a couple of weeks, they may never see your feed again. It’s how the algorithm works. So, you have to keep it active.
What is Celebrating Saturday?
So, Celebrating Saturday. This could be your own insights about your business. It can be about running a company. It could be things that you’ve learned by hiring people. It could be a shout out to someone in your company that did an amazing job.
And then, you give a shout out to the people that have helped your company this week. Maybe they went above and beyond to help a particular client in a time of need.
It could be, there was a particular situation that revolved around quick thinking, resourcefulness, or something like that.
Highlight the Best of Your Company Without Bragging
And so, it’s a chance where you get to highlight the best of your company without sounding braggadocious. Like, “My company did this,” and, “My company did that“.
But, “A person from my company did this and we want to highlight the values that this person represents. And is an extension of our brand, and we’re so pleased that they’re part of our company.”
So it doesn’t sound so braggadocious, but yet you can use that as your fodder for social media on that day. There are a lot of different things we could do that do not about hire me because we live in an era where that wanes quickly. And the more you hear a company saying, “$25 off, hire me. We have this special going on right now,” people are like delete. And they don’t give you the time of day.
You Have to Come Up With Something New to Keep People Interested
But if you come up with a new idea, an inspiration, a game, a contest, or your customers are allowed to post their best pictures, all of a sudden, it’s a different feel. It’s a different vibe.
It’s like, “Hey, there’s this active company. We want to support this company that’s active and growing, and having fun.” That’s the message you want to portray.
